There are some alarms out there that currently do this, but almost all are pretty locked down and you have to sign up for Alarmnet or whatever it is. I've been searching for one I can install myself and self monitor rather then paying monthly for, but that doesn't seem to be out there. I'm almost to the point of building my own.

I don't think I've seen self preservation like reading alarm companies posting on internet forums and such. You even mention self monitoring and they'll tell you that "you are playing with your life and it's highly unrecommended! You need to pay the $50 a month monitoring to protect your family!".

I want glass sensors, but I'd also like sensors that would tell me when a window is opened, not just broken. Motion sensor is a plus, but I must have the ability to turn it off due to the dog.
We had a wireless motion sensor installed by Smith Thompson that allows for pets. It has to detect motion within two vertical ranges simultaneously to be tripped. Of course it can also be bypassed at the keypad.

I'm just trying to keep from paying S-T $1000+ for a system I can install myself for free, and likely obtain for half of what they are selling it for.

Admittedly, those numbers are pulled out of my ass. I don't have the slightest clue what they charge for their systems. I only know what ADT quoted me the 'value' of their 'free' alarm system was.

yea that is what he told me at first, then he called the tech and since the tech lives out my way he is going to make my house his first stop on saturday.

At least you'll know there's sensors available for pretty much whatever you may need. Most of our system was installed by the builder and we only added the motion sensor and a second keypad from S T.

I've been working for ADT for the past 4.5 years in residential. I can help answer any of your guys questions on the board. I'll be as honest as possible about anything you need to know.

As far as other companies go, stay away from monotronics. Most mom and pop security companies use them unfortunately b/c they are cheap to buy in bulk but getting a call from them when the alarm goes off is a problem and when you need to get a tech out to your house good luck with that too. S&T is a pretty reputable company and very cheap. The one and only complaint i ever hear about them is that after 5pm every one goes home and you can not reach anybody. ADT also has its complaints...mainly the price but I do say I work for them because they are the most reputable.

Anyone got questions let me know or feel free to PM me.

I had Brinks, then it switched to Broadview, and now it switched to ADT. I'm still paying $24.89 when I first joined in 2001...and now in my 2nd house.
