Hit up the Usual on Magnolia. Brewed on Magnolia is usually pretty quiet until later in the evening as well, and it's just down the street.

When they first opened it was excellent. I went a while back for a friend's birthday and they changed management and the chef is from Ridglea Country Club now. It's still a pretty decent place, but they shouldn't have made the changes they did. However, that's the food aspect.

Drinks are poured nicely, bartender is usually cute, they have Jack and Coke icees, Texas Country is played and no hoodrats. It's actually a cougarfest around the bar, mostly.
