GM's got data recorders when they got airbags. I worked at Saturn dealer at the time & they got data recorders in 1993.

I noticed drivers immediately got much more aggressive. I asked a few customers about this & they said :
"With ABS I can't have a wreck & even if I do, I won't be hurt because of airbags".

Since the then, on board computers have 100 times the memory & 10 times as many sensor inputs.
