Just a FYI for those that are not all that knowledgeable about lasers but I have built myself and can/have freely order for several board members here lasers that can and will cause permanent irreversible blindness within a nano second at close range exposure if hit in the eyes. These are hand held lasers that will set things on fire instantly when pointed at an object within 5-15 feet depending on the power. The green laser like the guy had was "probably" not strong enough to do any real damage. I have owned 532nm lasers (green) that I could put a dot on an object 5 miles away and clearly see it at night time. Not to mention that pretty much all of your high powered lasers look like light sabers at night time and will lead a straight line directly to the point of origination.

I've got just a stock green last with the good 900mah batteries and I have shined it a little over a mile away in the woods and it was super bright. They can get pretty crazy like inline said. That dude is a moron.
Idk what it is about lasers and flashlights that interest me...2014 GT

Was it jail-worthy? Yes.
Two+ years? No.
22 years old? Not a kid.
I agree that it is a crime with the potential to cause serious harm to people. If it was a kid I would be for more leniency, but a 22 year old is a grown man. Still, not two + years.

First off, the title of the thread is misleading. He didn't shoot the laser at a cop, he shot it at the pilot of a police aircraft. The vast majority of pilots that fly LEO aircraft are not LEOs.

I wonder why the author put in the fact that the actor had two aliases? Was it because he had a criminal history? Was the sentence because of past offenses?
If this was a first offense, that punishment is waayyy to harsh, IMHO.

i remember seeing the video when this happened and it did infact blind the camera that was filming. lasers dont stay as a small dot as they are flashed. the further the distance the larger the laser beam becomes. also this wasn't the first time he was arrested. im sure that had plenty to do with why he received prison time as well. fuck him.

Most people I talk to have nothing but good things to say about you, but you sure come across as a condescending prick. Do you have an inferiority complex you've attempted to overcome through overachievement? Or were you fondled as a child?
You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

Id challenge you to find one pilot who flies LE or civilian medevac who doesn't have YEARS of military experience. They don't hire pilots fresh out of flight school.

It doesnt take more than a few milliseconds to do perm damage, but thats not the evil of these at night - what is bad when flying an aircraft at night is loosing your night vision to where you cant see your instruments . That doesn't take a straight shot in the eyeball - just hitting the aircraft and getting that light into the cockpit is enough.
I saw the video for this where they were tracking the guy with the FLIR and he kept popping the helicopter with it. He prolly thought he was gonna get away with it, but i'm glad he got the book thrown out at him.
If you want to be mad about murderers getting less time than this thenthats what you should be mad at - this guy got what he deserved
