Capitalization isn't as important as spelling or punctuation, but it improves readability.

I capitalize. I don't care what others do. If they consistently never capitalize, then it's obvious they are just in a hurry/lazy/don't care, so I don't think it makes them look stupid. Lots of spelling and grammar mistakes do, though.
