My biggest factor in falling in love with a mountain destination is remote wilderness and wildlife. The part of CO I go to is extremely remote, and has awesome wildlife, but the lack of grizzlies and wolves does leave me craving something bigger and further North, with an Alaskan backcountry trip being the holy grail for me. One of these days...

Fly into Whitehorse in Yukon, then drive down to Scagway, Alaska. From there take a prop plane to wherever you want to camp out in Alaska, or take the car ferry to Juneau and go form there. The scenery is on par with The Sea to Sky Highway.

Hell yeah. Take a cheap Southwest flight into Reno, rent a car, and drive up. Ski the south side and north side, and/or stay in town and hit Heavenly. Ski down "Gunbarrel" at Heavenly for half a day, and you may not feel like going any where else.

Tahoe is incredibly gorgeous, too. You guys are making me want to take another vacation. It's a shame DFW is so visually boring, because I love living here.

Spent many a summer as a youth in Sunnyside, Tahoe city, etc. I guess you're familiar with Butt Bridge?

also the mountain biking on squaw valley and northstar during the summer are second to none.

You'd be amazed at just how quickly that washes off.

I'm sure it would to a degree, but I'd miss all the jerkoffs I know around here. I really didn't realize how incredible some mountain scenery could be until the Alaska trip last year. I've always been more of a beach bum.

Eh.. It takes 1 year to find new friends, get into a routine, and really feel like you're starting to know the area. I do miss all my friends a TON, but i certainly aint gonna live and die in HEB because of them.

LMAO! Oh, memories.... I want to go back so bad, it's just too expensive and I can't afford it right now. My dad used to be the Assistant GM at the Resort at Squaw Creek.

The thread reminds me that it's almost time to get my plans together for Keystone/Arapahoe Basin this year.
I was on the slopes for 3 weeks last season.
My 3rd year in a row and getting less expensive every time I go there, due to more legwork on my part.

Flights for under $150. Shuttle from denver to Summit county roudtrip for $100(or just rent a car for around $120 a week).
or a 1 day drive from DFW.
Good local bus system(Free) covering summit county.
Season pass less than $300(holiday restrictions).

Anyone want to "timeshare" a season lift pass?
