  • Proof Of Financial Responsibility

    This was my experience;

    2 years ago get pulled over, went to show him my insurance, was told that when he ran my plate, it showed I had current proof of financial responsibility.

    1 year after that, got stopped again, didn't have my card, asked the LEO if it showed I had Liability through the NCIC check...He told me the law states I must show proof when asked for it.......

    It all depends on who you're dealing with at the time.....

    I KNOW...." STOP BREAKING THE LAW ASSHOLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

        § 601.053. EVIDENCE OF FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY. (a) As
        a condition of operating in this state a motor vehicle to which
        Section 601.051 applies, the operator of the vehicle on request
        shall provide to a peace officer, as defined by Article 2.12, Code
        of Criminal Procedure, or a person involved in an accident with the
        operator evidence of financial responsibility by exhibiting:
        (1) a motor vehicle liability insurance policy
        covering the vehicle that satisfies Subchapter D or a photocopy of
        the policy;

        (2) a standard proof of motor vehicle liability
        insurance form prescribed by the Texas Department of Insurance
        under Section 601.081 and issued by a liability insurer for the
        motor vehicle;
        (3) an insurance binder that confirms the operator is
        in compliance with this chapter;
        (4) a surety bond certificate issued under Section
        601.121;
        (5) a certificate of a deposit with the comptroller
        covering the vehicle issued under Section 601.122;
        (6) a copy of a certificate of a deposit with the
        appropriate county judge covering the vehicle issued under Section
        601.123; or
        (7) a certificate of self-insurance covering the
        vehicle issued under Section 601.124 or a photocopy of the
        certificate.
        (b) An operator who does not exhibit evidence of financial
        responsibility under Subsection (a) is presumed to have operated
        the vehicle in violation of Section 601.051.

        Acts 1995, 74th Leg., ch. 165, § 1, eff. Sept. 1, 1995. Amended
        by Acts 1997, 75th Leg., ch. 1423, § 18.06, eff. Sept. 1, 1997.

        The law states YOU will provide the proof, but it sounds like the officer was a dick.

        The law does not say it has to be a hard copy, I wonder why the thread about the inspection station refused to inspect without a hard copy.

                    Officer Bryan Blue, 32, was driving his personal vehicle

                    A Fort Worth police officer was arrested over the weekend after being accused of operating a boat while intoxicated.

                    Officer Beau A. Leboeuf, 41, was arrested Saturday while boating on Eagle Mountain Lake

                    A veteran Denton police officer was arrested early Saturday morning on a DWI charge. Officer Andrew DeBerry was arrested by Fort Worth Police on Blue Mound Road.

                          How fucking stupid do you have to be to not have insurance information in your car? Why would you have it anywhere else? Will you be on your computer at home and suddenly find a need to show it?
                          No, the only time you'll need it is if there is something involving your vehicle. Why would you not have it in your vehicle?

                              The statute states the required info includes the VIN of the vehicle covered.

                              There are tons of dealerships/rental agencies/fleets with "All owned and/or non owned vehicles" on the card. This is in violation.

                              I've always wanted to get a copy of one and use it as my own since they can't prove it doesn't cover mine.
