So you went on to play college ball? Isn't Kenny a good ballplayer? I said "excel", not "participate". I don't really need any parenting tips. Mine turned out great! Done properly, money spent on your kids can be an investment. We just have different philosophies. Mine are proven. But you're right...it is just your opinion.

Your opinion isn't discounted. It doesn't count at all.

Seems like the main point there was teaching - which is also fairly obvious. If you invest the time and teach children, regardless of your preferred method, more times than not - you will be successful in their understanding of your lesson. I tend to give my kids quite a bit of "things", but work very hard to ensure their understanding of the value of what they have and what goes into it for them to earn/receive that item.

I believe it is a parents job to put their kids in the best situation to be successful throughout their life and if I have the means to provide them with things to make that transition easier, than I definitely will. How responsible they are with those items will be directly related to how good of a job I did to raise and teach them.

Also I think it is incredibly hard to tell someone how to raise kids if you have not done it yourself. It is about as unique of a situation as you can possibly be put in - at any point in your life, regardless of how ready you think you are.

Yeah, but remember that the parents are teaching that entitlement through their actions as well. Realistically, entitlement is just an American way of life it seems anymore.

No, and in the grand scheme of things, the chances of that happening are extremely slim.

Yes, he is, but size is eventually going to be an issue. It's already presenting challenges, but he will eventually hit a wall.

I never said they didn't, and I also didn't give you any parenting tips. You seem to think $1710/mo is a reasonable amount for child support, but the reality is it's absolutely ridiculous.

I'd say my parent's methods are pretty proven as well.

There a lot of different parenting methods that work. They don't come with "owner's manual's". All my wife and I knew was that the way we were raised was not the way we wanted to raise our kids.

The guy that lives next door's kid was being scouted by colleges to play football for them, until he got injured. Kid got everything handed to him, learned nothing, and is now in and out of jail, on drugs, and has a bastard child.

He may not be a pro, but who is? College ball is not a huge leap. Just imagine Kenny gets a call from Jim Schlossnagle (the TCU baseball coach). He's got the grades, and he comes to you and says if he works really hard with a personal hitting coach and has a great junior/senior year, he has a really good shot at a scholarship. The time and money it takes (not to mention the kids dedication) is quite a load. I really hope you would allow him that shot. I really hope you guys get to experience that.

It happens. Can't make up for poor parenting.
