I'm tempted to try one of those sleep number beds, because they are adjustable softer to firmer. That may be my best bet.

Also matress firm has a "one year love your mattress" gaurantee or they'll buy it back as well

They are pricey but the saying "you get what you pay for" applies here

I don't think it's the sleeping on his stomach so much as it is his boyfriend getting rough with him

Before wasting money on a sleep number bed I would just buy an air mattress and put a 2" memory foam topper on it. Thats all a sleep number is. I still have my air chambers for camping!

I have a regular ol' sealy mattress and a 2" memory foam topper that works WONDERS for my comfort and sleep. I'm a cheap ass though so that 2" topper is as far out as I'll go for bed expenses LOL

we have a king size tempur-pedic and it has done wonders for my back/sleep.

they will allow you to try it for like up to 90 days, if you don't like it they'll either swap it for a different model or let you return it (less shipping).

after having four major back surgeries neck and lower back fused (all due to a car wreck) I'm fused c4-c5 in the neck and I'm fused l3-l5 in my lower back. I still have a herniated in the thoracic area that hasn't been operated on because of the "more damage than good" thing. I have tried both the sleep number and now I am on the tempurpedic. I definitely recommend the tempurpedic over the sleep number. I would wake up about ten times a night every single night on the sleep number in some major pain. My mid back would hurt from the minute I laid down till I forced myself up in the morning and definitely couldnt stand up straight for a while after crawling "yes crawling" out of it. I tried many numbers both soft and firm on the sleep number being as I had it for almost 7 years. This new tempurpedic bed is awesome, I also have the tempurpedic pillow to go with it after trying a memory foam pillow first. I can lay in this new bed for 10-12 hours and it's nothing like it was in 5-6 hours of the sleep number. Granted I'm not pain free and will never be, and knowing everyone is different, this, for me, was a smart purchase.

+1 on the Tempurpedic pillow- they will usually throw in a pair when you buy the mattress
