Off topic, but this is DFWM.. Do you guys like being pilots? How did you get started? Arlington has a flight training school, but I've always wondered if it is sort of a scam school like all the bullshit technical schools that will "teach you how to be a mechanic" that are out there.

It costs a lot to get the hours to be a commercial pilot. Best bet is military training.

Yeah, I jumped over to their site and it's about 50 grand. About the same as a lot of people pay for a Bachelors degree, I suppose.

I'm sure you can go to the University of Phoenix and fast track it on an Online Aviation Degree program.

            Is that your professional opinion?

NTSB report: pilots fucked up, and they feel bad.

Qik46, you did raise a good point of contention of the 777. Just took a quick look at Vol II of the 777 manual. Looks like the A/Ts will add thrust if you get below Vref unless you are below 100' or in VNAV SPD mode. That is based on a quick search. I don't use VNAV SPD much, if at all, in the 80. Or could they have been in idle trying to get to a glide path that did not exist, and the power stayed in idle as they descended? It is amazing how strong these airframes are.

Dam I hate studying on vac.

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

One of the fatalities is being investigated as a secondary incident where she may have been run over by a rescue vehicle.

After your $50k to get your hours in, you fly cargo planes for $18-20k a year. It takes much more to become a airline pilot (flying hours, certifications, working for a specific company and be promoted, etc). Military is the way to go. I was looking into this 5 years ago and talked to a couple family friends who are Delta and American career pilots. Even flying airliners, you fly little shit planes for a long time before you fly international and make money.
