Pilot type? You do know the GS was NOTAM'd out out as well as VASI on that rwy.

I've flown into SFO many times and I am always uncomfortable on the glide path over the water, same for Philly.

It's just the opposite flying into San Diego, the planes fly in directly over the skyscrapers downtown. Wouldn't take much of an error to clip a building.

I can see why people thought the plane flipped. It looks liked it spun around a complete 360 with the right wing rising as is spun around.

The NTSB is giving a press conference. Starting to sound like they were going too slow on approach. Also said that the Glide Scope at the airport was out of commission for maintenance but other equipment was online. I was wondering about that.

Guess you can't fly a 777 without autopilot helping follow the GS descent path

I wonder how often the pilots have to manually land the plane, maybe they were out of practice?

Yep, so my Dad thinks the 777 created a glide slope that took the plane to the very beginning of the runway and the pilots didn't notice in time to save it.

Also, all 4 pilots were Korean, albeit supposedly with quite a bit of flight hours, 3 of them over 10,000 and 1 over 5,000 is the preliminary info posted.

My Dad said one issue with certain foreign airlines, including this Korea company is the culture of not questioning the Captain of the plane. 20 years ago Dave Greenberg went over to KAL to try to fix that culture and rumor is Asiana didn't like Greenberg at all. Anyway, could be another possible factor of the 4 pilots in the cockpit, two in jump seats didn't correct the error in time.

I believe we have the RR on the 200 Series and GE 90 on the 300 Series. GE's had a gearbox problem and we had either 6-8 a/c affected.
