What most mechanics dont know is, these motors were built with a huge ring gap, so from day one out the factory they make alot of blow by. Its nothing to be scared of.

Hey 2000gt, tell your wife that these motors last forever so long as she keeps the oil changed atleast every 5000 miles. 200k is nothing for a powerstroke.
I wouldn't be scared to buy a higher mileage 7.3 either, but I'm not the one with the strict requirements. His wife said 50k or less, so I was giving him my opinion on where to possibly find one that meets that criteria.

its a cam sensor and you want the black one from ford not the gray one from ford. I have an 02 f-250 7.3 4x4. Its got 182k on it now, I have a 6.5 inch lift with 35's on it. I average 15 mpg, I got 19 mpg on one trip to new orleans but I think I drove slower and the wind was pushing me. You will have to replace the sealed hub bearings on the 4x4's they are the most common thing to wear out. Keep the radiator flushed with ford gold every 80k and you wont have to do the water pump and heater core as often. mine are still factory. I have done a million things to my truck and I really dont think there is much to make them get "good mileage". You can make them have decent power but they are the slowest of the diesel motors. On that note I think they are one of the most reliable motors you can buy. I still like mine, I keep almost buying a 6.4 to do the deletes and sparton tune on but my truck still starts and goes to work every day. I dont want a truck I have to work on.

7.3's are gutless turds, that's why they're somewhat reliable

Well, if this Ex isn't just a giant pile, the sub will be for sale. It is a very capable off road vehicle, it's been places a suburban just isn't supposed to go.

I run 14w40 delo in mine. Keep an eye ont he walmart sale ads. You can find it for 10 bucks a gallon sometimes. Its about the same as rotella and just a lil bit cheaper.

Did you already get rid of the regen exhaust on your truck?

Well, I'm not racing it and everything i Pull is less than 10K lbs. I just want reliability, and better than 11MPG.

don't have to be racing to want power...

a Cummins will do all of it and more using less fuel

A 5.9 will do it. Not to sure about the 6.7.

                              No you don't. They don't make a 14w40.
