A Los Angeles police officer was reportedly shot Tuesday evening in an unincorporated neighborhood in South Los Angeles, authorities told The Times.
The officer was in an area patrolled by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department in an area near 117th and Willowbrook, not far the sheriff's Century Station.
The officer was shot in the face, one source told The Times.
It was not immediately clear why the officer was in the area.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department said the officer was taken to a local hospital. There were no immediate details on the extent of the officer's wounds.
The shooting followed an ambush earlier in the day in Mid-City in which a gunman opened fire on two LAPD undercover detectives. The detectives received minor wounds as officers swarmed the area and launched a manhunt for the attacker.
No arrests had been made in the shooting Tuesday evening.
According to Twitter, there's been 4 cops shot on this one. Estimates on how many citizens are shot by overreacting officers?
