  • 2 alleged tornado looters caught in Cleveland Co.

NEWALLA, Okla. (AP) - The Cleveland County Sheriff's Office says two alleged looters have been arrested in the tornado-stricken area of Newalla.

Sheriff Joe Lester said Monday that deputies saw two Friday night picking up metal and wood and loading into a vehicle.

Officials say 45-year-old Christopher Allen Jones of Newalla, and 42-year-old Candy Renee Jenkins of Oklahoma City each face complaints of disturbing a disaster area. Jenkins was also cited for obstructing a police officer. She allegedly gave a false name when she was being booked.

The damaged area in Newalla was hit by storms on May 19.

The sheriff says Jones and Jenkins told investigators neither lives in the stricken area and they didn't have permission to remove the property. Each told investigators they had been taking debris for about two weeks.

It's a shame they weren't able to catch more of them.
