If the shop is always locked up, has he "walked" ? I would figure out who owns the property and get with them to retrieve YOUR property. I am assuming you have a title to said car ? You can search county records to see who owns property or go ask other tennants who owns it. I'd ask the other tennants what the deal is with the guy. Maybe hes working at night to avoid his hostage customers... Seems like there is always some shady painter/body place that screws people over. Never pay for that work up front

Painters and chassis shops are the worst of all.

My brother got the run around for over two years by a painter. He ultimately ended up suing, winning a judgement, and finding a painter to complete it, but it was a major pain in the ass. I think he only has received a few hundred of the few thousand though.

Unless you are doing a $20k paint/body restoration it is hard to find a dependable shop that will deliver perfect results. There is a shop in my small south arkansas town that specializes in mopars and often has cars for as far away as California for resto. Not cheap, but they do great work, and only work on two or three at a time.

Yep I have done every kind of work on a car except paint because everytime Im ready to bite the bullet I hear or see someone go through "bodyshop hell". Most stories involves insurance jobs pushing cash jobs to the side but some are like this one. Sucks

I am feeling pretty good about my last paint shop experience. I dropped off a car with all the trim, grill and lights removed, and gave him some money up front for paint and supplies. Three weeks later it was done at the agreed upon price.

Moral of the story is, don't ever ever EVER let a friend or relative do the paint and body on your car. They will only fuck you over.

                    Unless it's your dad.

Was the pricing reasonable? Looking to potentially repaint my Mustang, I don't want to do it myself again...once is enough.

I'd go get my car and beat his fucking ass.

Seriously though, when do friends put friends shit on the back burner ? I don't get it.

This is why I don't make commitments to friends unless I know I can follow through with it. Sometimes I come off as a dick, but if a favor is going to take me forever to accomplish, I just prefer to turn them down.
