  • super single tires

i know that a lot of trucks are running these. what are the benefits? cause i know when the treads comes off, they sure as hell make a lot large obstacle to avoid on the highway. they could really damaged a car, or pretty much take out a motorcycle if a rider hit one.

I know of no single benefit, but I have encountered many downsides to them.

I've heard it all comes down to price, but that could just be some bullshit I heard.

axle weight rating. we run 4 of our trucks with these expensive ass tires and have been fortunate enough to not have one blowout.

no upside to having them IMO.

downside is they cost around $700/piece

well, kinda. Most still run regulars on the steering, so they need two spares...

Ive heard a couple reasons to go to them, but to me there all a wash.
                      1. Less to check on a pre-trip, IE - 2 tires to check instead of 4
                      2. %3 better fuel eco
                      3. less rotational mass
                      4. less weight of trailer = more weight in cargo

this is just what ive heard from my dad/people he works with. Ive heard the negatives far outweight the positives.

Finding one in the middle of the night after a blow out is a pain in the ass, and extremely expensive.

                              This.

The guys who haul doubles love having them on the converter dolly because it makes it easier to maneuver when hooking up.
