  • Thought I'd share a bit

I found out a few weeks ago that my grandfather has cancer. Evidently it's sitting on one of the tubes that go from his kidneys to his bladder and this is the reason he's been in a lot of pain of late. One doctor told him that it was a pinched nerve and that his new laser therapy would alleviate the pain. $5,000 and zero help later, he went to another doctor. That doctor told him he didn't have a pinched nerve but rather had cancer.

Huge blow to the family. I was raised by my grandparents and they are in their mid 70's. Still very active and very much the heads of the family. Greenville Hospital told them they couldn't check him out for a few weeks so he hit Baylor in Dallas and was sent to a specialist. We were all told that they may have to take the kidney because of the rapid spread of the cancer and we all started preparing. Today, a microsurgery revealed that the cancer hasn't hit the kidney yet and they can save it. I just wanted to share with yall and...I really don't know.

I bitch a lot on here, and fuck with people but there seems to be a consensus that we're a family. Dysfunctional one, but one none the less. Still have surgery to go to remove the bad stuff but hopefully this is a good sign that this will be beat.

Damn, horrible news. I'm hoping for a speedy recovery for him. My grandfather was not as "lucky", and was given a false osteoporosis diagnosis for the pain in his spine after they did an x-ray and saw a bunch of spots on his spine. He was given pain meds and sent home by his PCP. A month later he woke up in so much pain he couldn't move. They called an ambulance and took him to the hospital where they took an x-ray and diagnosed him with spinal cancer that had spread and there was no hope for him. I sat in the hospital with him almost all day every day for two weeks until he passed.

With any luck, this minor surgery will be all that's required and you, and your family, will get to keep him around for a great many years longer.
Scientists do not coddle ideas. They crash test them. They run them into a brick wall at 60 miles per hour and then examine the pieces.

If the idea is sound, the pieces will be that of the wall.

Cancer effects far too many people. This is BS that as far as we've come, we haven't figured out how to stop cancer.

sorry to hear it. if you educate yourself on cancer it is a lot easier to deal with and understand . the immune system is all important. the healthier you are the better your chances. nutrition is all important .
be there for him but remember he will be more worried about what it is doing to you than to him. i can remember the doc telling my dad that he would not feel a thing but it would damn near kill me.

Update: My dad is out of surgery. Instead of the 3 hours they said it'd take it took closer to 5 and he'll be there until Monday earliest. I'm very happy to hear he's resting well and just as ornery as always.

Thank yall for the well wishes and prayer. Hopefully they got all of it and it doesn't come back
