there's a reason we don't do mobile repairs, and another reason we carry a million dollar policy...... to cover our ass in the event of a horrific problem/accident. My bosses family has been in buisiness since 69, they've never had to make a claim against the policy. They've had some minor stuff but always able to cover out of pocket.

I've done it a few times, but not my thing, my tools are at my shop.

I have a 300,000/300,000 property/person insurance policy for my shop. Main thing is I do everything by the book and use proper parts, never house brand crap.

Now it does not always work out. Had a customer with an ElCamino that needed brakes. I didn't notice the wheel spacer/hub adapters until I removed one wheel. I told him I normally don't work on cars that have those because they are dangerous but since he was a good customer that I would make an exception. Well when removing the adpters I can see they are not the right ones for the ElCamino (centering ring was way too big) and someone on multiple occasions had tightened them down too much and had shaved the aluminum ring around the stud holes.
I told him get the right wheels for the car. He refused. I told him the hub adapters are dangerous, wrong ones and damaged and that I assume no responsibility should a wheel fall off. He agreed. Took the car home and 1 mile latter a wheel fell off. He insisted I pay for the new door, fender, trim, paint and wheel.
So I did. Lesson learned. Now if I dismantle something on a car I follow the book if its a severe damage I don't let the car leave until properly fixed no matter how much the customer complaines.
Good judgment comes from bad decisions and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.

Do not believe so, he had talked about getting back into it but nothing ever came of it as far as I know. Diesels have been keeping him pretty busy at the shop.

And that is the way to make lifetime customers right there.
