  • Recent Arlington murders

I live close to the area and lately this has been concerning my wife more so of course it now concerns me more. I had casually mentioned the possibility of moving to her about a year ago because of the crime in the area...I figured maybe somewhere in the Grapevine area might be ok.

Is anyone else concerned about the murder rate in this area? I realize Arlington continues to experience growth and with it come growing pains like this. Also the new police chief seems a damn sight better than the old one and it's worth giving the guy a year or two to see if he can turn things around. I know that a lot of the violent crime that came to this area about 10 years ago started moving from Dallas...I can't recall exactly what caused it, but seems like a lot of gangs or drug deals started in the eastern Arlington/west Grand Prairie area.

On one hand, I do hate moving like anyone else and finding a new house and area to live takes time. On the other hand, if this is an indication that things might only continue to get worse, now would be a good time to move out instead of waiting for a massive number of homes to flood the market.

Figured I would ask what other people think about the situation.

Are the murders suspected to be random killings or are the killers connects? Sometimes bitches be talking back and bitches need to be put in their place.

Word, not even safe in Highland Park anymore:

HIGHLAND PARK -- The Highland Park Department of Public Safety said its officers fatally shot a motorcyclist on Tuesday evening after he was able to fire a small gun and escape from police custody on Mockingbird Lane and Airline Road near SMU.

Police closed a long stretch of Mockingbird Lane from the Central Expressway along much of SMU's southern border for more than four hours on Tuesday.

The incident began about 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday when someone called Highland Park police to report a green motorcycle following them.

Highland Park officers found the motorcycle parked at the Barnes & Noble shopping center in the 3000 block of Mockingbird Lane. A few minutes later, the motorcyclist came out of the Luke's Locker store there where officers confronted him. The suspect fled, but was quickly subdued.

Police handcuffed and detained the motorcyclist after discovering the green motorcycle was stolen and the driver had an outstanding warrant for 'fleeing from police.'

Witnesses told News 8 that minutes later they heard a loud pop and saw the back window of the Highland Park Police SUV shatter.

"The suspect was able to escape the handcuffs where he was able to use a small firearm he still had on his person," said Lt. Marc Rossini, Highland Park Police. "The suspect fired one shot out of the patrol car. Both officers returned fire striking the suspect."

Paramedics took the suspect to Parkland Hospital where he later died. Police did not immediately release his name.

The suspect is only believed to have fired one shot, Rossini said, while police shot at least three rounds. One bullet struck a passing Mercedes in the busy intersection of Mockingbird and Airline, but no one else got hurt.

At issue on Tuesday night was why Highland Park officers did not thoroughly search the suspect to find the hidden weapon before handcuffing and detaining him.

Highland Park asked the Dallas County Sheriff's Office to investigate its officer-involved shooting, as is the department's policy.

Most people I talk to have nothing but good things to say about you, but you sure come across as a condescending prick. Do you have an inferiority complex you've attempted to overcome through overachievement? Or were you fondled as a child?

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

Well if you think Arlington is bad you sure would not like my area. South ft worth has turned to a complete cesspool in the last 10 years.

I think he's saying "you can't rape the willing" as evidenced by his saggy loose butthole that hangs out of his shorts.

Born and raised in Arlington, lived there 30 years, live there now, Mom still lives in the house she bought the year I was born. The majority of Arlington is a shit hole, but it's been going down hill slowly for way more than 10 years. It's overcrowded and housing is cheap. East Fort Worth and West Dallas are sketchy, so naturally, you get some trash coming over. Katrina didn't help.

All that said, I'm pretty sure the few murders lately are still less than what you have in Dallas or Fort Worth.

In this metroplex, you gotta pay a premium for a nice area. Higher prices keep the riff-raff away. $200k will get you a lot of house in Arlington. It doesn't get you much of anything in Grapevine. Your other option is to move to the outskirts. Decent neighborhoods, decent prices, but longer commutes. However, a lot of the outskirts will eventually start to degrade, too. City life FTL.

There are nearly 400k people in Arlington and there have been 5 murders this year. Overreact much?
