You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

I got an estimate online. So how does it work? You check off on what you need moved, get a quote and if you left off a thing or two, you get charged extra in the end? Im guessing they don't come out to see for themselves...

Just to bump this thread, I had Firehouse here yesterday to give me an estimate.... This is to move 1 mile, I shit you not.

        Packing service:
        2 packers x 6 hrs. 88.50 per hr. x 6 hrs. 531.00
        Trip fee 88.50
        Estimated packing total: $ 619.50

        Moving service:
        6 men / 2 trucks x 11 hrs. 236.00 per hr. x 11 hrs. 2596.00
        Trip charge 236.00
        8% fuel surcharge 226.56

        Estimated total: $ 3058.56

$551 of this is in bullshit trip and fee charges. I sent an email to the owner telling them this is not competitive and get a response about how this is competitive.......

Damn that's crazy. I was filing stuff last night and came across their quote. I will see which one it was later.

Mine was moving just 1-2 miles up Custer from the Ridgeview course to the Craig Ranch course. The 6 men part is where I know it isdifferent. Mine was around 8-9 hours with 3 guys, but I moved a lot on my own

We packed our own stuff, but to put it in perspective for the guy I used it was 8 or 900 dollars. We gave a 200 dollar tip.

He showed up around 0630 and was done around 1900.

              Him and 2 guys

              1 24' Truck Filled
              1 12' Trailer Filled
              2 Pickups Filled
              1 Mustang Filled

When I say filled - cabs and all were stuff full. Almost did not have enough room for a broom.

Things of note, is a fairly large gun safe, 2 packed tool boxes, a medium sized - old school/home built smoker (heavier than gun safe)...etc

(This was after we did a run with our own 24' truck and 12' trailer load and not our storage units. )

The distance was from Plano to Van Alstyne - 40.5 miles

I just checked and that's far off from mine.
                  Trip fee: $55
                  No Fuel Surcharge.
                  3 men x $100/hr.

Make sure it was www.firehousemovers.com just in case. If it was they have gone up quite a bit over the last couple years.

it was www.firehousemoving.com, so different org, thanks for correcting. I've contacted them and their rates look far better.

Seems like every moving company is "off duty fireman" or some shit like that...

Good deal. I've used them twice with excellent results. If you do the quote online, the office manager will email you fairly quickly with an accurate quote. Best advice is to make sure you schedule a day where you are FIRST on the list, otherwise you deal with other people "underestimating" the size of their move and it causes long delays.
