Than you thank yourself if you likeOriginally posted by talisman View PostWhat if I built the car?
Whatever floats your boat. If someone believes in a deity, should they not be allowed to that their God? If he wants to point at the sky, how is it hurting anyone else? If his religion instructs him to cut the head off of the nearest unbeliever every time he wins I could see the problem. But I don't get why non Christians see the need to beat and bash on Christians every time they acknowledge their God? If you don’t believe, good for you.Originally posted by racrguy View PostI don't thank my dads ballsack or my mothers ovaries for every little thing I do. No, but apparently you thank him for sparing what little he did and bless him for not killing others...Originally posted by bcoop View PostSo do you give god the glory when a tornado rips through your town and kills your kids? Just wondering.
Edit: I'm in no way condemning people for worshiping a religion of their choosing, or not worshiping at all.

Personally (and in all seriousness) I would thank God for the fact that my wife and I lived, and pray for the strength to carry on without my child. Life on earth is not peaches and cream. It's going to suck a lot sometimes. But with my faith comes the comfort that there is more after this life, and God willing, I'd see her again in Heaven.Originally posted by bcoop View PostSo do you give god the glory when a tornado rips through your town and kills your kids? I don't normally take part in these discussions, but I just wanted to know why it rubbed you guys so raw when people thank their God for something?

Probably has something to do with Christianity being every Christians favorite subject. It would be like if I thought Plan 9 From Outer Space was the greatest movie ever made, and you didn't care. Yet every time we talked I had to find some idiotic way to bring it into the conversation, then cried persecution when you told me to shut the fuck up already.

It's pretty much in the name. Kind of like atheists find that as their favorite subject with a driving force that requires them to criticize any comment about a deity.Originally posted by talisman View PostProbably has something to do with Christianity being every Christians favorite subject. It's not, but it was against the rules in this instance because some people can't control themselves. If he wants to point at the sky, how is it hurting anyone else?
It does.If his religion instructs him to cut the head off of the nearest unbeliever every time he wins I could see the problem.
If you're going to attribute all of the good things that happen to him, you must also attribute all the bad things as well. That's the crux of the argument that's being made here. Also, there's no reason to give him credit for things that he didn't do. You can use your birth as an example, god had nothing to do with that. But I don't get why non Christians see the need to beat and bash on Christians every time they acknowledge their God? I am an atheist and I do not find this to be my driving force in life. I generally try to stay away from talking about religion, and I am especially not the first one to bring up the topic. Will I throw my 2 cents in if someone else brings up the subject? Probably. Sometimes I just prefer to not voice my opinion. The persecution, humiliation, and dehumanization that atheists undergo in society is a bit overwhelming for most folks, and sometimes for me, too, so most of the time I don't say anything about it.Originally posted by Forever_frost View PostIt's pretty much in the name. I don't like talking about athiesm at all. It's rare that I even vaguely describe my stance on it beyond the basic obvious tennent. You know why? Because it doesn't matter, and I'm not interested in recruiting.
