Do officers not take classes on grappling? Do they not have a radio, pepper spray, taser and so forth? If a cop grabs me or squares off with me and I punch him in the face, what happens to me? I know what happens to soldiers when we have to do a take down and our detainee looks like that. I didn't say not striking back, you don't CLOSED HAND PUNCH someone in the face. A hand clap to the ears, light jab to the throat, a strike to the solar plexus will be more effective with less actual damage. Unless she was armed, you don't do that. Period

I'm kind of on the fence on this one. If she did square off and throw a punch, she deserves to go to jail. I know if a woman calls 911 and they show up and she looks like this, I go to jail. Do not pass go. Cops should NEVER use closed hand punches on anyone, much less a woman.

I am on the fence here as well. I can see many times an officer would be justified in using a closed fist. I have no problem with them punching in certain circumstances. Now I am not sure it would have been justified here but she does look a little large and if he was a small man I could see it being an effective tool to use. But 99.9% of the time I am of the belief that you never hit a woman.

We're taught to end the fight as soon as possible. Time=brutality. The longer the fight the greater the chance of injury to the suspect as well as the officer.

There is a force continuum that we follow. Generally speaking chemical agents are a higher level of force than combatives. And if you think I'm going to purposefully strike someone in the throat you're crazy.

I'm in decent shape but I'm not an elite level mma fighter. I know my limitations. Fighting someone is labor intensive. So once again "grappling" with someone until they give up is asinine. I'm not rolling around on the pavement if I can help it. Rocks, broken glass, building material, etc takes a toll on skin and bone. That time=brutality thing comes into play again.

Citizens banding together to protect themselves? MUCH better place. Or hire private security for the city with no union, negotiate a price and don't give them all the protections that police have accrued.
