Contour or GoPro Camera

    Contour or GoPro Camera

    I am going to buy and send my cousin a camera to mount on his helmet. Kind of a loaner for him to use and play with to record his deployment. He is in the Army and at a tiny camp in Afghanistan lobbing mortars at bad guys.

    Looking at camera options and leaning towards the Contour +. I like the bluetooth connectivity and Android and iOS apps to start stop record and to watch. I like the low profile body and rotatable lens.

    Anyone used one of the Contours? I know we have some GoPro users but I think they are too bulky for what we need. The end of his deployment he will be sending it back to me so I can use.

      I thought you wanted one for a test run on your vacation.

      I have a GoPro2 I was going to let you use, but it seems like that's not the case.

        What is the megapixels on yours?

        I can find plenty of used and LNIB GoPros on Ebay but not many Contours. I would like to go with the Contour since they are smaller and lighter.

          I have a GoPro Hero 2 and it is just ok. The microphone is the weak part of it IMO and it is not very good up close. I will be sure to take it to the river shoot to make "4th of July Jackass Movie Part 2".

            Keith, I have the Contour Roam 2. I picked it over the Gopro because I like the way it looks better, and you can get an app for a smartphone to arm it and check to see where the view finder is pointed (Gopro might have the same app).

                Your Roam 2, it doesn't have GPS and Wifi does it? I have a few I am watching on Ebay right now.

                I figure I can let him have a 32gb card and a camera to get some footage for himself to record his deployment and I can continue to use the camera for the Cobra and get a gun mount for playing around with too.

                      I have a gopro HD hero 2 and 3 black edition, the Hero2 makes pretty good video But I'm not a fan of its Night shots and the Hero3 is a lot smaller and does some pretty good night time videos and it has the built in wifi and comes with a remote. When you connect to your ios device or android it does have a 2-3 second delay but records and stops almost instantly.

                        i have a gopro 3 silver that i use on my boat to record us wakeboarding and surfing. it takes very good video and its not that large or heavy. ive never even heard of the contour camera so i cant compare them.

                        the silver has built in wifi and app for Iphone that you can view as you record, and stop/start feature.

                          Mine does not have GPS, I'm not sure about wifi. I haven't even taken it out of the box.
