It is incredible to think that on this day just a few generations ago the course of History was changed by good men from The Empire and the United States of America. I say men loosely because I realize that the vast majority of these men were younger than I.

Just remember that we know how it ended and it is still tough to think about stepping off of that boat and onto the beach. Imagine if you didn't know how it would end.

No shit, knowing the first man out of the boat are most likely going to get shot and killed.

Now deceased actor and WWII hero Charles Durning

So much respect for him, and all of our men that fought and died during that great endeavor.

I do believe this was the last generation in the US that could, as a whole, call themselves a generation of men. No complaining, no poor is me bs. They just did their job, came home if they were lucky, and live(d) as real life examples of what heroes are to everyone around them.

They are inspriring, and at the same time massively depressing.

They are an example of what we could, what we should be; but they are also an example of just how far we've fallen.

Hell, even the women back then had more man in 'em than most men of the generations that followed, including my own.

                          Well said.

Much respect to all of those courageous men.

I am sure they did to but they kept fighting . Those men knew what it was to have love and respect for country and what it stood for . They fought for what they believed was right and when good men have a purpose that grand it's impossible to stop them . The japs and the germans found that out .
