are they needed? a vehicle with a 71.5mm hub and want to run rims that have an 83.7mm. where can hub rings be purchased? i think i would feel better if they were hub centric.

so after more reading than i really cared to do, i am even more confused. do you get hubcentric rings to support the weight of the vehicle on the hub and not on the wheel studs, or do you get them to ensure that the lug nuts go on evenly?

They don't support the weight just hold the wheel centered while you tighten the lug nuts. Made a huge difference for me. Jeep just felt skidish without them. I got mine on amazon and it wouldn't hurt to grab an extra set just in case you crack or lose one during a rotation or flat.
