My stepdad is retiring from the fire department after 28 years and I am not sure what to get him as a gift. I have thought about getting him and my mom a voucher for a trip, good bottle of booze, etc. but wanted to get some of your ideas.

Hookers, Blow, and some walking around money..."Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." - Thomas Jefferson, 1776

If he's with the city of Fort Worth, buy him savings bonds and ramen noodles.Originally posted by davbrucasI want to like Slow99 since people I know say he's a good guy, but just about everything he posts is condescending and passive aggressive.
Most people I talk to have nothing but good things to say about you, but you sure come across as a condescending prick. Do you have an inferiority complex you've attempted to overcome through overachievement? Or were you fondled as a child?
You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

He'll appreciate anything you give him. More than anything, congratulate him on getting through it. I know he's bound to have had a tough time with the body recovery of his brothers and sister from the motel fire. He'll be happy with whatever you get him but he'll appreciate you being there for him.

And he worked all around Houston , he had plenty of chances for hookers and blow. If he did not get enough that is his own damn fault.

Not necessarily a gift idea, but more of a comment that may spark some ideas. My grandfather wore a watch to work every day. The day he retired he got home from work, took his watch off, put it in his desk drawer, and never wore it again. He said "I don't need this anymore." When he passed my grandmother gave it to me.
