  • Electricity rates are jumping back up

For those of you about to renew. They have come up significantly. I was at 7.5 cents per kwh average billing with Reliant and they were trying to jump me to 9.2 kwh. That was the negotiated price, initially it was 10.2. Could not find any thing better than 8.9 cents on power to choose for my area. Just a heads up.

I got 9.2 locked for 1 year w/ no fees through Ambit on my new house, the rates literally jumped .3-.4 cents from a week before I called.

Just checked my area and its all 8.5 or 8.6 cents for 12 month contracts. Just called Infinite energy who I currently use and they offered me 8.9 cents. South Arlington by the way.

Questions for you guys that shop around, this will be the first time I have signed up for a new provider at the same time as my contract expiring on my old service. Can I sign up a few days early without incurring any kind of termination fee or should I wait till my contract is up?

**EDIT** Nevermind, just signed up for the REACH service and it let me choose my start date.

I figured the rates were going to go up soon because there were so many "3 month contracts" in the 6.x range on powertochoose. You just knew they were gonna snipe your ass with high rates after that.

I locked in a year with Infinite for 8.9 yesterday

I guess the upside is people with gas wells will see bigger checks now.

My 6.4 for 6 months contract expires next week with infinite. The cheapest thing I see now is 8.9 for 12 months. Anybody got a promo code?

Yes, prices have been climbing for us on the Commercial side for the last couple of months, but still very reasonable.

Nope, they are increasing across the board. Retailers buy their electricity on the open market. As their costs go up, it is passed along to the consumer. The Texas market is too competitive and there are too many retailers, for anyone to just gouge at will. Well, I guess some can, but they are just going to lose market share.

Im at 8.2 at the shop and 7.5 at the house with TXU. I decided on a two year for both when I renewed earlier this year.

8.2 an all in price (meaning, do you pay TDSP passthroughs and basis adjustments, or is all of that included)? If all in then that is a good price for commercial!
