Firing someone usually clears up the confusion.

      Just this guy:

Iv been a supervisor in various different jobs over the years and Iv found some things that work(imo). What are some thing's y'alls supervisors have done that you liked or made work fun? Or some pet peeves that supervisors do that they shouldn't? Seems like I have a long list of supervisor screw ups but a very short list of

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

          Fire them. Lol

I went from banker to branch manager early last year. It is mainly just your attitude that will dictate your outcome. I was kind of 'one of the guys' and it didn't go over well. Then, after I had enough, I went into total dick drill sarge mode. Now that the relationship has reset I am slowly easing up a bit, but nowhere near like I started out.

Ymmv, but that was my big problem

Biggest change is you can't try to be everyone's friend, don't try to be liked...just respected!

Just try not to be a dickhead when you start, and make your expectations clear, when disciplinary situations arise.

Be humble but firm! Let them know you are not there to make friends but get the job done. Works for me.

That can definitley be a tough transition, but success depends on u and if ur ready for a leadership role. If u have been trained and mentored correctly u will know how to handle it. If u are being promoted because you are the best hourly on the floor and they have no one else, it can be a real struggle. As said before, u cant be their bud anymore. You have to change the way u interact with the crew.

Good point. Going on a power trip and trying to change everything right away that u hated as an hourly is not good.

I disagree with this. They are already going to fear you because of your new title, and the fact that you already know their performance issues. You have been working beside them and they will be second guessing everything they have ever said to you. You can use this to your advantage without having to be a dick.

They are hourly employees, they are all expendable, and a dime a dozen.

It's when you start managing salaried employees that you have to start giving a shit.
