Can't you get a ticket for having the tailgate down?

I didnt read all the replies but back in 09 when I was working in Coppell ( 30 miles tollway each way), they voted to increase the toll fees and then they voted to have automatic toll increases bi-annually or annually, something like that, no vote needed.

It's a complete horse fucking they are putting to us. I would like to destroy every camera they have and all that pretty ass landscaping that goes on 24/7. These motherfuckers build shit and then tear it down.

I'll be commuting to Ft. Worth 4 days a week, at this point I'm seriously thinking about the DART/TRE rail, by the time you figure in fuel, tolls, bullshit, I'll save myself thousands and add years to my life.

As much as I hate 360, we've been thinking about giving it another try. It's free, and clearly a lot of people have moved over to 161. We carpool, but the time is a bitch. Mansfield to Las Colinas to Grapevine and then back, it's an hour in the AM and a little over that in the PM.

360 depends on the time of day and if there is a ball game. I wrote it off years ago, then the 183 construction started and jacked up my 183/820 route.

Now, I'm back to using it and it's not as bad as it was before the GB opened. If you hit 360 and 20 before 6:30 a.m. you'll be at 360/121 in Grapevine in 25-30 minutes(9 times out of 10). I can leave Grapevine at 4:30 or 6:15 and be at 360/20 in the same amount of time, 25-30 minutes. On my 4:30 days I use the overpass connecting 183wb to 360sb as an indicator. If it's not backed up, I carry on. If so, I jump across 183 to the GB and can be to 20 in 14 minutes.

So, 360 is no where near as bad as it was 6-7 years ago. I drove that bitch from Broad and 360 to Grapevine every day during peak hours for years and it was always over an hour each way and that was when there was ZERO traffic south of 20 and no stop lights. I would hate to have to drive it south of 20 now. You might give it a shot for a week and see.

The way it works is they have a computer software that can automatically pick up the tag numbers and cross reference it with the DOT database to verify who owns that plate.

If they can't read even one number - believe it or not - there is an inmate in the OK Dept of Corrections that physically looks at a picture and inputs the missing digit into a software. If they can't read it, no charge...

All you have to do is make sure one digit can't be read.... Spray some shit on half of your license plate that deflects the picture on a few numbers and you're fine.

I'd love to do the above, but I travel through the airport too much and can't get away with it...

It's the biggest scam in this town. There are still empty toll plazas in Richardson that had to cost a fortune. I have to admit they are nice roads for the most part, and convenient. I've rarely used them lately.

I live 2 miles from work, so FUCK the NTTA.

It was all the way back in 2007 when Perry and his administration starting telling us that we have a choice, either "toll roads or no roads". They were not willing to raise gas taxes (especially with prices already so high) and they had plenty of banks like Goldman Sachs that were wanting to finance toll roads throughout Texas.

I've said many times that gas taxes need to be raised. We actually get something fo those taxes. We get roads, bridges, and more business. Meanwhile the states population keeps growing because frankly Texas is a damn nice place to live. But this population increase means more stress on our infrastructure. We need to repair and beef up existing roads and bridges while building new ones. We haven't raised the gas tax in over 20 years. Steel, asphalt, concrete and labor are more expensive across the board.

So instead of raising taxes, we raise tolls. Back in 2006, I paid $3.00 a day to take GWpkwy to Perot Systems. I still paid the gasoline taxes we have today. I would be happy to have gotten rid of that toll and paid an extra 10 cents on a gallon of gas. My commute to Perot was 23 miles each way. My old Mustang got about 25mpg so it would have only cost me 20 cents.

Folks were against this because they don't all drive toll roads. However more roads are likely to become toll roads. State officials will even create Lexus lanes and take away an existing lane on a road that we paid for with our tax dollars. They took the bond money for SH121 and turned that into a toll road too.

We've gotten so anti-tax that we've will cut off our nose despite our face. Higher gas taxes are a bargain compared to toll roads.

Taxes haven't been raised in 20 years, but it's safe to assume that we consume a whole lot more than we did then.

                      It's not enough?

And all of those extra people are paying extra money into the road fund because of the current gas taxes and our registration runs quite a bit as well. The funds just need to be better handled and start shopping for companies to do the work with penalties if they go over budget or over time specified.

The thing that gets me is the time it took for them to send the fucking bill. I rolled through a handful of tolls near DFW back in Sept and just got the bill 2 weeks ago.

Went on their site to pay it and couldn't find anywhere to pay just the amount due. All it would let me do is open an account and charge me $40 to have on tap. I declined and sent them a check through my bank. Got a second notice yesterday, but when I called to pay it it said it had been paid.

The other annoying thing was there wasn't a lane available to hand over cash when I was driving through. Every other state I've been in still has at least one lane for a cash transaction.

Oh well, looks like I'll be dropping my tailgate next time I go through.

I've been told that HWY 170 will be toll as well.

On another note when are they going to finish 114 in Trophy club/Roanoke? I swear they abandoned this section of Hwy.

This^^ is total bullshit. They stopped accepting legal U.S. tender, and citizens didn't bat an eye. I've avoided their roads ever since. When I crossed the Hudson River recently, I was surprised to see an actual person who accepted my money.
