There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to how seats on an airplane are priced anymore. Check out the big travel sites (orbitz, etc) but keep in mind AA has been removed from several of them lately, so be sure to check AA.com directly.

I prefer southwest, but when I flew last minute in December I ended up saving a bunch on AA over southwest and flew into the airport that closer.
