Even allowing for a massively conservative margin of error, the scientists say that the cold fusion device they tested is 10 times more powerful than gasoline — which is currently the best fuel readily available to mankind.

This looks like pretty poor science. The fact that the inventors won't show people how their device works, and the article wants you to infer that the, "experiment," is following the same lines as previous unrelated research, rather than present evidence for its validity, is sketchy. Also, "...the best fuel available to mankind," is pretty subjective. It may be the most readily available fuel for cars, but it's hardly the most energy dense.

Unfortunately, that isn't how things work with real research. If you want someone to test a claim, they have to be given all the parameters of the experiment, so they can control for them.
