  • big news if true -- cold fusion verified

The cold fusion device being tested has roughly 10,000 times the energy density and 1,000 times the power density of gasoline. Even allowing for a massively conservative margin of error, the scientists say that the cold fusion device they tested is 10 times more powerful than gasoline — which is currently the best fuel readily available to mankind.

Don't worry about what you can't change.
Do the best you can with what you have.
Be honest, even if it hurts.

"Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy; Its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery" ... Winston Churchill

This looks like pretty poor science. The fact that the inventors won't show people how their device works, and the article wants you to infer that the, "experiment," is following the same lines as previous unrelated research, rather than present evidence for its validity, is sketchy. Also, "...the best fuel available to mankind," is pretty subjective. It may be the most readily available fuel for cars, but it's hardly the most energy dense.

      And then, there's this:

That is an idiotic claim and does not belong anywhere in a halfway serious discussion about nuclear energy.

Is nuclear energy readily available to mankind? Not sure about the cold fusion thing, but I know that pretty much every piece of machinery that I use that's worth a damn is powered by gasoline.

What's fueling the power plants that run electricity to your house? What fuels the vehicles that move freight all over the world? It ain't 87 octane.

There are many other fuels to take into account. On our petty level, gasoline is pretty fucking huge. As far as energy by volume, there are better options other than nuclear and gasoline.

Hell, I wouldn't show anyone either. I'll produce all you want but you want to know how it works, you have to wait until I get a patent. Still, shady guy.

Edit: This guy is a sham

It's too late now; the news is out and the Illuminati will have them killed and will have sold the technology to a Saudi Prince within 24 hours.

Unfortunately, that isn't how things work with real research. If you want someone to test a claim, they have to be given all the parameters of the experiment, so they can control for them. Also, he failed to actually make more energy than it took in, which is his whole claim.

Read all of the links. Notably:

Andrea Rossi Interview by Steven B. Krivit ( June 14, 2011)

It's obvious the guy is full of shit. Now, I don't know anything about cold fusion.. but I'm not going to line up to turn nickle ($6.XX) into copper ($3.XX).

And that's where the whole "producing energy" thing fell apart for him. lol
