  • Will there be another recession?

Gas prices are on the rise again. Last time, people that live pay check to pay check started missing their mortgage and credit card payments due to the gas prices eating up their current budget. Will be interesting since the oil companies are gouging us once again, what kind of affect it will have on the economy.

    Any thoughts on the affect?

No way the small increase will be like what happened a few years ago. How much does the average person spend on gas each month? Even if it went up $1 a gallon, it's not like most people buy 100 gallons a month.

60 miles to and back from work 4 times a week. $1 a gallon hike sucks. It's not just everyones personal gas usage that hurts, it's also the added cost of everything else to get transported to stores and whatnot. everything goes up from stamps to groceries. I'm all for free enterprise and getting what you can for your product but damn I hate gas companies.

I would say the majority uses more than that.

I don't think so. We hav been trending upwards for a while now at my work. POs are rolling in for the two largest projects in the state of TX right now as well, and they are huge. Omni Hotel/DCC and The Las Colinas Live/Entertainment District project (16 bars, 15 restaurants, PA theatre, and I forget how many hotels). We are positioned to have our beat year ever, if things keep like this. I'll put it this way - we usually do $100-115 million. We've broken $45 million, and are only 14 days in to the year.

it will kick start the electric and High MPG vehicle sales again, also people will scale back on travel and gas will eventually come down when the weather warms up. demand is a bitch.

One recession? A double dip recession? Back to back recessions? SLow but steady recovery? Depression? I couldn't tell you for the life of me what they're calling it these days.

Everyone has their own definition anymore.

Let's see what the great Wiki says that a depression is (since it's probably just copied from an Economics text book anyway):

In economics, a depression is a sustained, long-term downturn in economic activity in one or more economies. It is a more severe downturn than a recession, which is seen by economists as part of the modern business cycle.

Considered, by some, a rare and extreme form of recession, a depression is characterized by its length, by abnormally large increases in unemployment, falls in the availability of credit— often due to some kind of banking/financial crisis, shrinking output and investment, large number bankruptcies—including sovereign debt defaults, significantly reduced amounts of trade and commerce—especially international, as well as highly volatile relative currency value fluctuations—most often due to devaluations. Price deflation, financial crises and bank failures are also common elements of a depression, that are not normally a part of a recession.

Lol, this current rise has jack shit to do with real world demand. It's all artificial. They've got tankers anchored offshore that refused to dock until prices came up.

Jobs are STILL down, the Fed is printing money and the government is buying its own debt, commodities are skyrocketing, banks failing in record numbers... nah, we're OK.

I doubt it, the average is 12K per year, so if they get 10 MPG, then they would use 100 gallons, but most don't get that bad.

How much does the average a american drive each month?

the average american drives around 12,000 miles a year or 1,000 miles a month
