Definitely a bird that has been farmed and raised and kept, for the better part, parasite free. I donb't give a fuck if they got to enjoy a game of soccer in a field or lived all their short miserable life in a box, I'm going to eat it not name it.
If you know much about yardbirds you know that the free range stuff is often a cover for subpar livestock. Sad but true. And BTW the top pic you posted is a fairly clean healthy environment compared to the commercial sized "free range" operations I've seen.
<-- several years experience in the packing industry
Patrice O'neal once said that he had to get over the fear of eating a white woman's pussy because it looked like half cooked chicken - done on the outside/raw on the inside, and he was afraid of getting food poisoning.
I think most of us would prefer free-range, naturally fed animals if it were a simple choice (if cost and availability were not a factor). But there is no way that enough could ever be produced to feed the current population.

When I used to fight roosters, we'd give those bastards .75 of a cc of testosterone 16 hours out. Ill tell you right now, they were rooster killing sob's with that shit pumping in them. They were like god damn trained assassins

Speak for yourself.
Consider this; birds pass parasites thru their shit. They also peck and eat everything on the ground, from rocks to turds to feed.
Would you rather they live in an environment where the crap falls through a grate so they can't peck at it, and the food is in dispensers where they can't contamoinate it, or would you prefer they run around a field crapping and eating crap and spreading parasites and diseases? Add to that which environment feeds in antibiotics and vitamins and which one uses joe natural's "organic hempseed medley".
There is a reason H1N1 developed in Asia where livestock tends to run free, especially birds...
I've got a silkie rooster that's a mean sob. He attacked me a month ago and when i kicked him off i broke his leg. He healed up well, but is still mean.
I'll take option one. My in laws are poultry farmers and titer houses never look that crowded

they peck at their shit in houses also. The shit builds up near the feeders and water where they spend most of the tome
