Its the block. I have several customers that have Jeeps with blown 3.8s in them.
I haven't torn one apart myself but my understanding is poor oil port design and the smallest amount of sludge blocks them causing oil starvation and then the rings prematurely wear out the cylinders. Someone does an oil change, I cleans out the sludge but the damage is already done.
That's just from what I have heard and read, no real first hand experience.
Only motor that should use a quart every 1k miles is a Rotary.Good judgment comes from bad decisions and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.
