SOUTHLAKE — Police said a deadly shooting incident Wednesday evening at Southlake Town Square was "not random."
A 43-year-old man was in his car with his wife in the 100 block of Grand Avenue when he was shot at least five times shortly before 7 p.m. near the Victoria's Secret store, Southlake Department of Public Safety Chief Stephen Mylett said.
The victim was taken to Baylor Regional Medical Center at Grapevine where he was pronounced dead. No one else was injured.
The male suspect, who is believed to be in a white sport utility vehicle, may have been wearing a black mask, Chief Mylett said.
Police said they have not yet determined whether the two men knew one another or if there was an argument before the shots were fired not far from Town Hall.
There are surveillance cameras in the vicinity, and the chief said investigators were reviewing those recordings for clues to the identity of the suspect.
The incident sparked immediate reaction on social media sites.
"Was driving by Southlake Town Center taking my kid to swim team when the deadly shooting happened," WFAA medical reporter Janet St. James tweeted.
"I work right down the road," Lauren Sukumar wrote on WFAA's Facebook page. "Didn't hear anything, but that is scary."
"I'm shocked the shooting happened at Southlake Town Square," wrote Maddi Lusby on Twitter.
"Not even a week after Southlake was named the best suburb in DFW," added crystalbrownwilliams, also on Twitter.
According to the most recent available statistics, there were no murders in Southlake between 2000 and 2011.
Southlake is one of the most affluent communities in the United States. Town Square opened in 1999 as an upscale shopping center.
