  • any of the biker crowd familiar with the "trike/chopper" scooters?

just for example, http://www.scooterdepot.us/ to name one source.

For maybe 5k I could buy a couple of fun toys as gifts, just wondering some things:

How easy to get tags and insurance?

What can I expect? I think these actually have carbs, It would really make me feel retro to have a carbed 250cc bike.

How do the 2-in-back trikes handle? The 2-in-front? For a person who never rode a bike at all? How about the choppers?

Could someone concievably drive through DFW traffic to the mall or something with little worry?

Any local sources where i could see one?

reliability? Tires? etc etc. all thoughts welcome, realizing these would be toys and not everyday vehicles.

Get a trike if you want to get laughed at by everyone on a bike.

Other than checking them out I wouldn't be riding them, but yes i have owned a few bikes. After a too many thunderstorms and other BS I realized a cage was more my style about 30 years ago.

So is most everything in the world today, if it isn't a hunk of mexican, brazilian, taiwanese or korean shit. Care to elaborate?

I realize this is basically 70s lawnmower technology, but I do actually remember a 250cc yamaha being considered "big".

For instance, i was thinking about this:

For someone who claims she always wanted a chopper, and would have a blast for about a week before it got relegated to the back of the house for the rest of its life?

                    Or this:

for someone who thinks the trikes are just too cute?

Was thinking about a surprise gift for my wife and her girlfreind. They would probably get ridden a few times for maybe a month and then forgotten in the black hole of other crap.

For comparison, an alternative would be jewelry at about the same price point. Nothing super expensive but its the thought (and the eclectic whimsy) that counts.

Haha! I read "for my wife and girlfriend" that would have been awesome! Check out some used 250 yamaha viragos. They can be had cheap.
