The newscasters who were telling everyone without a storm shelter to get in their car and try to run from the tornado should be fired and tried for involuntary manslaughter (overboard, I know, but I'm pissed).

Every single stormchaser will tell you, including Tim, that you do NOT get in your car and try to outrun it. You get inside the safest part of your house, and hunker down.

Being in Oklahoma, being a part of "Tornado Alley", and knowing every year your state can and will be hit by a tornado, these dumbass newscasters should have known not to tell people to try to run from the storm. For Christ's sake, you have THE meteorological school in the entire country within your borders...and you don't know not to tell people to run. Fucking outrageous.

Mike Morgan from KFOR was the meteorologist you're referring to.
I was listening to their coverage throughout the entire deal. His suggestion to head south was more directed at the people that were stuck on the roadways, and the folks in mobile home parks. This tornado took one of the strangest paths I've ever seen. It went from heading towards downtown, to making a sharp right turn and heading towards where I live.
I don't have a storm shelter, and I assumed my neighbors was full, so we loaded up and headed west. It's hard to blame the news stations for anything in this situation. By the time the storm turned south it was already pretty dark outside, and most of the chasers were on the backside, or set up to the north east where it was projected to hit.
You should also know that all of the media outlets were telling people early that afternoon to have a plan and get the hell out of town if they didn't have a safe place to hide.
There was also the hurricane type rain that everyone had to contend with. I couldn't see cars sitting directly in front of me at a compete stop.

If you saw the building that I work at in my dealership maybe you'd understand. Its a QuickLube building and its probably the size of a Kwik Kar, but we dont have a full standing put. So I'd have to run to what use to be the Hummer Dealership cause its closer than the Thompson Group building. So if I had about 15-20 mins, Id think about leaving and hauling ass down 360 if it wasnt packed. But if I had 5 mins then I'd wait it out and hope for the best.

I live in Moore also. And the meteorologist were telling the people in okc and Norman to drive. The storm was more than 30 minutes away at that time. Once It had had struck El Reno most people stuck on I-44 were already out of time.

You are fucking crazy and I mean that with the utmost respect since a lot of good data can be obtained from chasers.

Yes, unfortunately there were in fact news agencies telling people to drive away if they had shelter. The problem was that people took that to mean that they should do that right before the tornado got to their area, which further compounded the already congested roadways during rush hour traffic.

There were also numerous instances of police/troopers blocking roadways for various reasons (which pisses me off more than anything), creating even more traffic. We were stuck in a line of cars that was in the path of the third cell we were on and the wall cloud was coming right towards us, I said screw it, drove around the entire line to the front and there were local police who had stopped the entire north bound lane. So there was a line of cars northbound who were completely stopped, and the line of cars going south was super slow because of the rubberneckers and people slowing down next to the road block. It was overall the perfect recipe for disaster. They are lucky that wall cloud didn't produce.

I never recommend anyone to get in their cars during a tornado. At all. Yes your chances of surviving an EF-5 above ground isn't the best odds out there, but its still much safer than a car, those things get thrown around like toys. Here is how much I think that a car is a bad idea, while we were inside of the circulation, I decided that if the tornado took us off the road that I would immediately get out of the car and lie in a ditch if plausible. I'd rather take my chances like that than in the vehicle.

I'm in disbelief. Trying to wrap my head around the whole thing. Absolutely crazy. Thank God it didn't make it into the metro, with all those cars jammed up the death toll would have been in the 100s or even 1000s....

He has multiple chase vehicles, thats just the one he chose to chase out of for whatever reason that day. Better on gas, more maneuverability... I believe he had a couple of his probes in there as well,
