Eventually, he will, because he will be away from his hitch and need one, or need a drop, etc. I thought about it last night, I've had 7 different hitches on my truck in the last 3-4 years.

The Reese one does not fit due to the lip at the end of the tube. It prevents it from sliding back far enough for the pin holes to line up.

I have used the same 3" drop hitch for 10 years on all of my trucks but this one. I'm not sure why you would need anything different than the one I always use. I leave mine in the storage under my rear seat if it's not attached to the hitch. Wont be without one.

Ah, I've been through this before. They make two, one with a lip and one without. The one with the lip causes the pin hole misalignment. The one without is just straight tube that slides freely. I have both. I think the one with the lip is geared more towards trailer making.

There is a dandy hitch place in arlington/pantego on the north side of pioneer pkwy between Bowen and fielder. Never cheap but always has what I'm looking for.

I guess its because I dont always tow the same trailer. The toyhauler takes a different ball, and rather than swapping balls out, I have different hitches. One is a weight distributing hitch, the other is adjustablle for load. Then I have a long drop hitch, a short one, and a straight. I like to set them up to tow level. If we put the mule on the front of my car hauler, and the car behind it, then the trailer will be nose low, and I use a different hitch.

I guess if you are just towing the same trailer all the time, you can do what you are doing.

For future reference, I was just a Walmart. They carry the Reese adapter w/o the lip for $12.

The 2013's we just got in my fleet had an adapter in them when they were delivered. Check by the jack tools .

Chevy uses the 2.5" as well in their 08 and up 3/4 ton and larger trucks, so it isn't just Ford. If you bought your truck new it should have had the adapter and a pin in the receiver, both of mine have come with the adapter.

I just ordered the 2.5" Reese hitch for $70 shipped prime...hope it fits.
                              Ford sells an adapter.
