Yeah, like radical muslims who're majors in the US Army and their trial for mass murder is put on indefinite hold because they won't shave.

And was it Delta Force who stopped the terrorist. Pretty damned sure it wasn't.

So you're averaging in the leap year.

That's the way my employer has done it since I started, that a year of leave like 03trublu was referring to requires 2087 hours. My hourly rate shown on my pay statement calculates out to my annual salary/2087 as well.

            The King is WRONG!

There are 26 two week pay periods in a year.

            80 x 26 = 2080

You may get paid 26 times in a year, but leave hours and work hours in a year = 2087. I have this down to a science because retirement day may not be far off for me, and that's the way my employer calculates it.

Well, sweetheart, my employer does it the way I've described, so that makes it right!

And I can retire in just over 3 years.

This thread gives me great comfort in knowing that I no longer pay local taxes to FTW, other than the very rare pittance of a dollar or so I donate to parking meters.

I'm seeing bans on texting AND using a cell while driving. Do cops use computers and phones while driving? Are they ticketed for doing it?
They are trained in the academy on using those deivces while in operation of the vehicle.

now if john q public were allowed to test and meet the same standards to be alleviated of the stupid laws, then i would be all for it.

2080 is pretty much the standard working year hour calcs used by many major companies. I know that 3 of my former employers, all of which had in excess of 100,000 employees, used that figure. Then again, I personally have not been an "hourly" employee since 1999.

I don't know exactly why my employer uses 2087, but they do and I have been there since 1984. The math does at least work out using 2087. We aren't "hourly" employees either, rather my employer only uses an hourly rate converted from salary for determining overtime compensation. Not that overtime pays much more than my regular rate, because in my case the OT rate is only about a dollar more than my regular rate. Real time and a half overtime is one of those choo$$$$$$$$$choo$$$$$$$$$$ benefits I don't have the pleasure of being entitled to.

Maybe you should have considered that benefit upon taking the job.

I know that pay and benefits are a major draw for a lot of employers, and that's the reason they exist.

Fort Worth has chosen to cut retirement benefits as of last October, and I've already seen 2 officers leave for different departments (one to DPS and one to Austin PD). The city has made a huge mistake in cutting benefits, as it will no longer draw the best applicants (what smart person is going to take sub-par benefits?) and the city will lose money by becoming a "training department" (meaning that officers will hire on, get trained, get experience, and go to a department with better benefits thereby outing the city about $50k in training that officer). The city will have to hire and train more officers instead of retaining them.
