Your choice, which do you prefer?
I've got a very good friend with 2 DWIs, he makes over $100k/year and he never saw any disciplinary action. Once he was even in a company car.

So tell me again how this PD employee was treated less harshly than my friend?

Yes, let's have equal protection under the law
So since Joe Citiizen gets to keep their job when they get arrested, the cop should too ?

We need to hear your friends side of the story.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

I'm seeing bans on texting AND using a cell while driving. Do cops use computers and phones while driving? Are they ticketed for doing it?
Like someone else pointed out, let me know the next time you see a bus driver driving a squad car. Or a 16 year old.

And NOBODY is flying anywhere on 635. Clearly you haven't been on 635 in the last 2 years.

            HA!

One time he was driving south on I45 and ran up onto the back of a judge's car.

And the only witness was an off duty state trooper!

            Yea, he was screwed!

At my shop if you get a DWI you get fired immediately. The worst thing you can do is put the company's name in the newspaper.

Nothing special about firing someone who needs to be fired but waiting six months to do it. You certainly don't deserve praise for it.

So it's fair to say there isn't a single standard that is universally applied?

Private sector (non union) he's gone the next day. Why did it take 5 months? Why was he paid for 5 months after getting this charge? Why do you defend bad cops?
                  Let me digress....

I think if anyone is out on their earned leave time, then it's fine with me.

I have over 2,400 hours of leave on the books, and if I do something that warrants a suspension, I can use what I've already earned. Simple.

There are 2080 work hours in a year. I don't think 5 months is out of line when I have more than that to use.

Most private firms handle alcohol and drug abuse in a similar manner. If the person is busted, they're usually pulled out of service and given an option, treatment or the street. Most opt for the treatment that usually has a caviat.. get nailed the second time and you're a gone Jesse!

                            365.25/7 X 40 = 2087

We had a guy that got a DWI in a company car (wrecked it), and he was fired. We had another guy get one now that we no longer have company cars and company insurance, and he kept his job. An acquaintance just got DWI #4, and kept his job. I also know another guy who got a DWI in a company truck. Kept his job, but was sent to rehab, demoted, and lost his company truck.

I had to can a dude when I was at a dealership, he kept having to take off for court, so we sat him down and asked what it was for, since he wouldnt tell us. He had gotten a DWI, and he claimed it was bogus and his attorney was getting the charges dropped. Our insurance would not let us have an employee with a DWI, so we had to can him. He wasnt convicted yet, so we canned him for showing up late or not at all too many times.
