I figured I'd post-up for all those that think this is a dream job..... Just now got back to my hotel. I got up at 4am this morning so I could leave Houston around 4:45am in order to be at COTA by 9am so we could get the rig parked, unloaded, awning set-up, etc. Here's a few pics.
COTA with an empty parking-lot this morning:
Pics at night inside the track:
Our paddock set-up with the awning on the side of the toter, racedeck flooring, etc. The car behind the racecar is our streetcar '13 Laguna Seca.
I snuck into an unlocked V8 Supercars garage just before I left the track:
For anyone that comes this weekend, stop by and say hi. If you find the Pratt & Miller CTSV team(take a good look at how top-notch all of their equipment is!), there's two Ford teams next to them, we are the #17 Mustang.
Reading Steve Matchett's book about life as an F1 mechanic right now and yeah, it's nothing short of the opposite of glamorous. His stories are pretty excellent.
A friend of the family is driving one of the jet trucks blowing off the tracks there this weekend... He was already there once doing it while they were doing VIP drives... He has some awesome video and pictures

I'll post some stories sometime, but anyone who needs a job is welcome to have mine! I'm doing it to help the team out, as they can't find a full-time guy. If you want to move to Angleton Texas, get your CDL, work a minimum of 6 days a week, 12 hours a day, and make peanuts, pm me. I'm very good friends with the team owner and will pass your info along. The last guy that was hired previously owned his own shop, worked at Late Model Restoration, and told me he would get his CDL and drive the hauler since I said I had no interest in doing it anymore after seeing a couple fatality accidents. He moved to Angleton, worked in the shop, never got his cdl, and packed his shit and left in the middle of the night after 6 weeks before the season even started. So please, step on up and take this dream job!

How soon would one need to have their CDL? This does sound like a dream job to someone I know...
I think I'm going to come down and watch. What better way to spend your 30th birthday?
All you bastagis that are there need to hold up signs! I am just watching it on the Speed channel. Has higher resolution than real life.
I am watching it now, just saw both front runner Red Bull cars get thrown back in the pack.
Those who went, hop you are having a blast. I only get to watch it in 70* airconditioning on a 58" plasma widescrean with a fridge full of beer and snacks while I kick back on my recliner and smoke something other than a cigarette while I can pause and rewind something that looked cool.
On a serious not, I realize there is no substitute for being there but being your own boss makes you a slave driver.
Good judgment comes from bad decisions and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.
That's not what happened. I'll post the story later, it was 99.9% my fault if you want to know the truth.
Late is late. He writes the checks and is responsible for his crew and their mistakes. I got the full story from the officials involved. spoiled little shit.
Also noticed daddy had the street car for sale this weekend too. Maybe they are running out of money playing with the big boys? They better not burn their bridges with the little folk if he can't hack it in the big leagues.
Let me guess, you forgot to service the cool suit for him and had to fill it at the last minute....or was it gas?
