  • where to take a car for disposal?

I have a coworker who has a car she wants to get rid of. its a 2001 pontiac sunfire. apparently the motor is knocking and the water pump is bad. she already got a replacement car and just wants to get rid of it. she called 1 salvage yard and they offered her $300 which is crazy.

anyone have any leads or options?

I could probably give her $300 for it if the interior is decent.

          edit...
Wow motors are expensive for that POS. I was think $500 tops for a motor, but they are pulling $750+!!!

That KBB.. i did baseline with 100,000 miles.

It all depends on vehicle, dealer, and how much they want you in their car.

For example, I had a 99 dodge truck with 230k miles that was falling apart. I did not even feel comfortable selling it to someone off of craigslist. It was vibrating when trying to stop and all kinds of things. Dealership said 3k for it and i handed them the keys.

It was a shitty car when it was brand new, now it's a 9-year old shitty car with a bad engine. 9-years is getting to be pretty old (where value is concerned).

I'd donate that pile to http://www.dallascanacademy.org/Index.asp and take the tax break knowing it also goes to a good cause. I've donated to them before, it's a direct write-off.

i just talked to her, she's wanting $500.

i'm going to go look at it this weekend to see if i can diagnose the knocking sound to see if it really is the bearings or not.
