If you make it through RIP and Ranger School but then fail selection, you will go back to the Ranger Battalion...but if you fail after joining 18X, youre at the mercy of the Army and they may put you as a cook, or laundry specialist or whatever shit job they need filled...choose wisely.[/QUOTE]
18X that fail out are sent to the 82nd as 11B, but if you are wanting to be in Bat, Bragg is the last place you want to be.De Oppresso Liber.

Because Fayetteville, NC is the town outside post and is just complete garbage. The only reason that town is there is because of Bragg, you rarely meet any normal people in that town, and every bar is filled with Joe which gets annoying. On the good side, Raleigh is only an hour away and Wilmington is about an hour and a half.De Oppresso Liber.

Damn it, I said that.Originally posted by davbrucas View PostCool...
Two options...
1. Join with Ranger contract and get as much of the schooling as you can and then go see the SF recruiter (way I did it), or...
2. Join 18X and go right into selection.

That will get you above a 110, for sure. The asvab score and GT arnt related directly.Originally posted by motoman View PostI scored an 83 when I started through Marine enlistment back in 04.
Its not like
If you scored an 84 than your GT is _
If you scored an 85 than your GT is _
But, anything above an 80, you'll be good for sure. No worries man.DE OPPRESSO LIBER

LoL! I was wondering when that would be thrown in here! 19k! Hooahh! Don't be a REMF! 40mph in a 70ton tank is like 300mph in a car!Originally posted by ceyko View PostAs far as I know every...type of unit has to have signal corp personnel of some sort. Signal Corps in the Army encompasses everything from radios to "IT". If you can get a Signal Corp MOS that is needed with the Rangers that could be ideal.
IMHO, Signal Corp is one of the craziest Army career paths. You can be with/near the front line guys, basically doing what they are doing or you can be a REMF in a AC'ed shelter at the bat/brigade TOC.
Another reason I recommend mixing Signal Corp into your military career is you WILL get training on things that are useful on the resume and for a decent paying career.
One of the biggest things about the military that I tell people, is that it is what you make it. You'll get screwed a few times, but if they offer training take it (even if you lose days off), go on deployments and so forth. The only thing I recommend trying to shake are the retarded details of raking stone, picking up butts...that bullshit.
Anyway, if you make it to Ranger and a signal corp dude - I'd imagine other special ops units would be available if desired. When you make it to that level, you have to more intelligent then the average grunt. (which when I was in the 11Bs were fairly common sense oriented...tankers on the other hand....)"People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf. I went into basic as an e3 because of my education. I had 3 years of college. Going in with rank is easy. I went in with a 11X contract with a Ranger addendum and basic is a hell of a lot harder going into when you go into the Ranger basic training. When I failed out of Ranger, I wound up in Korea.
Enjoy the ride and go get your tab. I wouldn't trade my training for anything, bullet in the skull and allI wear a Fez. Fez-es are cool

What phase did you recycle/fail? Most of the people that failed in my class was in the first week...mostly due to the physical fitness test and and water survival. If you come physically unprepared, you WILL NOT make it through.

That's the biggest challenge I will overcome before I enlist. I'm working on dropping a good 40-50lbs by dieting and lots of cardio.Originally posted by davbrucas View PostIf you come physically unprepared, you WILL NOT make it through.Originally posted by JesterEvery time you see the fucking guy....show him your fucking dick.. I'd probably pony up for a good personal trainer too.Originally posted by motoman View PostThat's the biggest challenge I will overcome before I enlist. I'm working on dropping a good 40-50lbs by dieting and lots of cardio.
I remember an old E-7 who is dead now, but when I first enlisted I was a reservist. He was tell me about his Ranger school when he was active duty. Apparently they arrived in a C-130 at about 0230 in the morning and it was cold. They got to do one arm push ups for a couple of hours on the freezing ground and then were allowed to relax with regular push ups. Granted, I realize there is some bullshitting in there - but I have no doubts it was miserable. He was a tough little son of a bitch.Last edited by ceyko; 01-13-2011, 08:39 PM.Originally posted by MR EDDU defend him who use's racial slurs like hes drinking water.

The reason I said what I did is this: I knew I remembered you mentioning this on canada, and figured you'd done all the planning and research already, just cant make yourself commit.Originally posted by motoman View PostI'm going to do my research on my interests before I just jump into an enlistment.
Looks like you've been researching for years. 29 months to be exact. That's not exactly jumping into it.

I actually haven't been researching it for 29 months. The post from 08 and 09 was mere curiousity with no real goals or future in mind. A lot has happened for me in my life in the past 4 months opening my eyes to what I should be doing. Hence the post in 8/10. I first started looking into the Air Force pretty hard and I did my research with them. Nothing against the AF but after a few months of checking into it I felt that wasn't really of interest. Which lead to where I am now, back at the Army where I originally started. I have my list of MOS's that are of interest and I'm doing as much research on each MOS as far as what type of job it is, what kind of requirements there are, what sort of extra skills I can pick up, and where it could lead me past enlistment. By the time June/July rolls around I'll be down at least 30lbs and I'll have my decision made. I'm not going to jump the gun on anything and set myself up for failure.Originally posted by HarrisonTX View PostThe reason I said what I did is this: I knew I remembered you mentioning this on canada, and figured you'd done all the planning and research already, just cant make yourself commit.
