I was wondering about going in or at least coming out as an E-4 with 18x, I mean all the special forces MOS positions say either Special Forces "name" sargeant except for the officer MOS.

I would make sure and do plenty of studying up for the ASVAB so I could score as high as possible as well as learning as much of the DEP list as I could.

Yup...they have a minimum score to join that unit, but if you are bare minimum you may get looked over. Kick ass on that test and that will show you where you stand mentally. You should take that test ASAP.

If I was in this economic environment and was young I would enlist in a second. It isn't like you are missing a lot of opportunity. You might as well go see the world and shoot at some fuckheads.

Oh. I interpreted is study for DEP stuff.

You need a 110 GT score on the ASVAB. I scored about an 87 (?) and had a 121GT. I fucked off in high school. Hell, I'm in the stupid math in college now, and still did fine on the ASVAB. Kids blow it off, or stay up late at the hotel room, and that 3:15am wake up sneeks up on em, and they sleep through the ASVAB.

To be honest I can't remember but I think almost as high as you can get. My recruiter told me there wasn't much I didn't qualify for and he told me with my security clearance I could pretty much get any job I wanted. But when I got down to MEPS the Sgt Maj down there told me he didn't have any slots for crash fire & rescue, the only thing I wanted at the time. So I told them if I couldn't get that MOS in a matter of a few months then I'm not interested. Waited 4 months and nothing opened up so I dropped out.

Yeah, I'm not sure if they still let Recon Marines go through Ranger school or not but I know I was one of the lucky ones that got to go.

I didn't go through all phases just the Beginning Phase and Desert Phase.

Two options...
1. Join with Ranger contract and get as much of the schooling as you can and then go see the SF recruiter (way I did it), or...
2. Join 18X and go right into selection.

If you make it through RIP and Ranger School but then fail selection, you will go back to the Ranger Battalion...but if you fail after joining 18X, youre at the mercy of the Army and they may put you as a cook, or laundry specialist or whatever shit job they need filled...choose wisely.
