They have to use buzz words and demonize you in the public opinion. Serves many uses. The more you hear IED and Improvised Explosives in the media over the next few months they less you question it.

Take the "active IED" er, pipe bomb they arrested that teen with, if even that probably more like a large homemade firecracker.

Raise your hand if you ever took .22lr, 12ga shells and lots and lots of blackcat fireworks and made a BIG firework. Yep, today you are a terrorist, a felon and your life is ruined. Stay between the lines and the lines are getting narrower and narrower each day.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

I'm just waiting until they label an over-pressurized tire as an explosive device.

Almost never. Still pretty much don't, for the most part on some days.

Story says it was ATF. That's why I was thinking Tannerite.

Unless I am mistaken, that is not specifically illegal in Texas but is construed as illegal at the Federal level? I could be wrong on that though, it just seems like I read something about the ATF "cracking down" on it.

I did a couple variations.. When I was still in elementary school (probably 4th or 5th grade) we would break down firecrackers.. Or even those red pop caps to gather up the powder. Then, in high school, my dad had black powder for a muzzle-loader rifle he had.

I never really made explosives though, just put it in piles and ignited it. That black powder would create a ton of smoke from a small pile of it! lol

Story has been updated (same link above):

ATF officials confirmed Friday morning the arrest of a West, Texas paramedic for possession of a destructive device.

Bryce Reed, 31, was booked into the McLennan County Jail around 2 a.m. Friday and was later turned over to federal officials.

There has not been conformation that Reed's arrest is in connection to an April 17th plant explosion that killed 15 people.

Reed served as one of the incident commanders during the explosion at the fertilizer plant.

The Texas Department of Public Safety also announced Friday morning that the Texas Rangers will launch a criminal investigation into the explosion alongside the McLennan County Sheriff.

"This disaster has severely impacted the community of West, and we want to ensure that no stone goes unturned and that all the facts related to this incident are uncovered," said Director Steven McCraw in a statement.

"The citizens of McLennan County and Texas must have confidence that this incident has been looked at from every angle and professionally handled - they deserve nothing less," said McLennan County Sheriff Parnell McNamara.

DPS officials declined to say anything more about the investigation and did not say in the statement the investigation was connected to the arrest of Reed.

In a previous version of this report, we indicated there was a connection between Bryce Reed and the explosion in West, Texas. Such statement was posted in error and as of Friday, May 10 at 1:25 p.m., authorities have not made any such connection.

                      http://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/Wes...206925231.html

On May 7, members of the McLennan County Sheriff's Department bomb squad investigated and rendered safe the device in the box. In the criminal complaint, agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives listed the contents, which had not been assembled into a working bomb, as follows:

"The components included a galvanized metal pipe that was 3.5 inches in length by 1.5 inches in diameter. Attached to the pipe were two galvanized end caps, one of which contained a drilled hole approximately 1/8 inch in diameter. Additionally, the canisters contained an unknown amount of hobby fuse, a lighter, a digital scale, plastic spoon, six coils of metal ribbon, and several pounds of chemical powders in individual bags. The powders included Potassium Nitrate, Aluminum powder, Red Iron Oxide, Ammonium Perchlorate, Potassium Perchlorate, Sulfur powder, Air Float Charcoal and Eckart 10890 German Dark Aluminum."

That sounds like a very convenient plant.

If this cat's FB page is an accurate representation of who he is, then I feel for the shitstorm he's in.
