No where in the article did it state that the child nonchalantly blew his head off, in one swift and natural motion. This is a case of a curious child doing everything he could to figure his new toy/puzzle out, and unfortunately he was successful. I don't see anything weird about it, just a super unfortunate accidental shooting.

Gun in both hands facing backwards, thumb(s) against the trigger.
In our CHL class, the instructor mentioned that toddlers usually will shoot themselves by holding a pistol upside down with their thumbs on the trigger and the barrel pointed toward them (obviously.)

not trolling, this is a PSA that if guns are your thing, do your best to keep them out of your childrens hands! i cant imagine how the EXTENDED family feels, let alone the parents. tragedy all around right here.

Not often I can agree with you. But this one I do. There is no way in hell a 2 year old should ever be able to get to a loaded firearm. Criminal charges should be filed in my opinion

            Obviously a vicious AR variant.

Horrible. Things like this make me question even having a pistol loaded in my combination lock box.

After further thought on this subject I am not sure if prosecution would be warranted. There is no punishment that our government can give this man that will hurt him worse than I am sure he already does.

Perhaps not, but his prosecution and sentencing will serve as a reminder to others that there are legal consequences for such negligence, that will hopefully prevent others from doing the same thing.

That's not a natural action (to point it at your own head), especially at 2 years old.

                          I smell something fishy.
Well said Matt. Something's not right

I believe that my daughter could have accidentally shot herself in the head at two had I been brainless enough to leave a loaded gun where she could have gotten it.

He could have grabbed the gun, sat down and put the gun in between his legs with the barrel pointed up. Naturally he wants to look down the barrel, and then accidentally pushes the trigger down with his hand.

Also true Buick. This was a horrible event and I'm torn on charging the parents. I'm pretty sure time in prison isn't going to punish them as odds of them committing this act again is extremely low

I'm all for charging the parents with child endangerment, there's just no excuse for that kind of stupidity and their child is dead as a direct result of it.
