  • Are you invested in the market?

A poll out today shows that stock ownership among US adults is at its lowest level since 1998. Just over half of Americans, 52%, say they own stock outright or as part of a mutual fund or retirement account.

Now I'm pretty confident I can predict many of the responses here, but I'm curious to see the results of the poll.

Most people I talk to have nothing but good things to say about you, but you sure come across as a condescending prick. Do you have an inferiority complex you've attempted to overcome through overachievement? Or were you fondled as a child?

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

Yes. Not just my 401k either. Are you going to make this thread a poll?

If PEP hits $85 in the next 30 days, I'll be out of the stock market except for my 401k.

I am a little bit in my 401k but most of it is in a money market right now. Historically stocks do horrible in the summer so I tend to only leave my very long term investments there through that time.

Via 401k, yes. I am in the process of opening an account just to invest extra money that I have saved.

I use it, I have a little. I keep it in a jar on top of my refrigerator. I'd like to put more in that jar. That's where you come in.

Just my 401k. I opened a sharebuilder account several years back, but didn't have the time to learn how to invest effectively. Needless to say I made poor choices with it.

Can I just have a business card with my name on it? I only need one.

Yes...mostly stock in my company, but also a few others that have been fairly consistent....Harley Davidson (HOG) as one example. It's done really well in the past 6 months.

I have a Roth IRA with them that has performed very well so far. I use that for my high risk investing but leave my 401K conservatively invested, probably too conservatively but I'm old.
