About to leave dish. I am paying $106 a month for 1 dvr and a hd receiver, hbo, and one of their HD packages.
Who should I switch to?
Uverse is available, as well as Time Warner.
I voted DISH. I have been a DISH customer for roughly 3 years now and have had zero problems. I switched to DISH from Verizon FIOS because of their poor customer service/billing dept. Not too mention their problematic and small storage capacity DVRs that caused me headaches everytime they tried to push through an update. It would delete my whole in box. Maybe they have fixed that, but when I was using Verizon FIOS, it was total junk. However, I did retain FIOS 25/25 Internet because it's actually reliable. And they get my bill correct on a monthly basis and with the correct name and account number. Something that always shocks me when dealing with Verizon. And that is when things go smoothly.
YOU are getting screwed big time. I pay $83 per month for a 2 room HD DVR + 1 additional non-DVR receiver for spare bedroom. And my package has always been the America Top 200.
Get rid of HBO. They charge over $15/mo. now for that. That's your problem.
I have been kicking around the idea of cutting tv service all together for quite a while. I think I am going to do it for a month or so to see how we handle it with bunny ears and all.
I've done this for a while now, I don't miss satellite at all. I can watch whatever I want, whenever I want, online for FREE. And I don't have to watch on my PC if I don't want to, I can connect my laptop to the TV.
It wasn't as great as they made it seem. I can't remember the details, but it was something like you could record 2 HD shows at the same time but you could only watch 1 or 2 non-HD shows at the same time or something similar. There was always 1 or 2 people (at least) who weren't able to watch TV or we missed recordings.
This was probably about 8 months ago or so. They may have made some improvement by now.
Your house is prob located far away from the VRAD. The further away you are the less bandwidth your house can get. I.E. If the VRAD box is in your backyard you can get att's full package but if you are 3k ft away give or take you would be set with limited capabilities.

One other often overlooked extra, the off-the-air HD broadcast quality from many broadcast stations is superior to what any cable or satellite providers offer. FIOS may be an exception.
Whatever you do, don't get Charter. Geez what a fucked up company that is...
I've currently got DirecTV and I like it mainly because of NFL Sunday Ticket. But I could do without every other channel.
After football season ends, I'm going to look into getting my account suspended until the start of the next football season. Alternatively I'm going to either kill DirecTV entirely and go with internet service only (Hulu plus, netflix, etc) or I'll get them to reduce my service to next to nothing. I'm tired of paying for 150 channels when I only watch 5 of them.

Same here. I watch about 10 honestly... all of the ESPN, Fox Sports , NFL, Travel , FX , TBS , TNT, Food Network ..
thats why i downgraded from choice extra to regular choice.... but could that be the reason why they charge me $10 HD service fee now?
I remember signing up and Choice Extra gave free HD service.
I called and told them I was cancelling and of course they started dropping the price like a mofo. $60 a month now, minus hbo, and pretty much the same hd channels I had.
The only two losses I see are NFL network, and BBC. NFL network is a who gives a shit for me. I never watch. I will be jonesen for Top Gear. I can catch that show online though. So I guess I am happy....................
You have to have had all or most of the cable/satellite providers before you get to the rabbit ears stage.
Rabbit ears broadcast HD owns all the others for picture quality and its FREE. I've had Dish, Uverse, TWC. They all suck...some just suck worse than others.
