Steve doesn't want any evidence of all the people he is now complaining about being supportive and encouraging him. He would have to actually reflect on things and come to a conclusion he doesn't want to come to if he did. Reminds me a lot of how the media operates these days: decide what your position is then only look at facts to support it, rather than research all the facts and then come to a conclusion.
